SEASON Investigates Scalable Node Architectures for High-Capacity Optical Backbone Networks
The study compares different matrix-switch-based MBoSDM node designs that dynamically exploit spectral and spatial dimensions to support extreme bandwidth demands. By evaluating architectures with and without spatial cross-connects, SEASON highlights trade-offs between flexibility, scalability, cost, and resilience, providing guidance for designing efficient and robust next-generation optical transport nodes.
