SEASON demonstrates how point-to-multipoint (P2MP) optical aggregation can significantly reduce network complexity and cost in metro and access networks. By replacing traditional point-to-point connections with P2MP transceivers and filterless aggregation nodes, the number of required transceivers and ROADMs is drastically reduced while preserving flexibility in bandwidth allocation. These results highlight the potential of P2MP-based architectures to simplify network design and enable more efficient, scalable, and cost-effective future optical networks.
